There isn’t just one thing, as I am now a freshly turned adult, I feel there is a thousand and one things I should have been taught before moving on to having my own life. There are so much pettiness and deception in the real world. I decided to start doing my own thing halfway through my sophomore year of college. I stopped relying on my mother, got my own apartment and started taking on way too many responsibilities at once because there was nothing making me think I had no reason not to.
There are so many things that we don’t know that we should (well some of us) personally I think instead of learning fractions they should have taught us personal finances, interpersonal skills, things that I’m actually dealing with now. I haven’t had to worry about a binder check or long division in YEARS but filing taxes, budgeting these bills, conflict/time management, and even how to write an resume or prepare for professional interviews these are things I feel should be taught in school not something you are just thrown into when you begin “Adulting” then realize you truly have no idea what you’re doing.
Now I can say that I prefer to do things alone and I probably started moving on by myself before I was supposed to, but I hate the feeling of having to rely on other people when I know I can do it myself.
I’ve always wondered do other people think things would have been easier if you were taught taxes or one of these important skills in high school?
